ARCHIVED

November 2019

The Art/Studio/Work/Shop: ARCHIVED was a collaborative project with artist Ruby Bolton, supported by Folkestone Town Council.

The exhibition had two parts.

It displayed a personal archive of The Art Studio Work Shop, a creative collective active in Folkestone in the 1980's.

The second part was a display and workshop programme using archive material held at the Folkestone Library & History Resource Centre. This archive includes photographs, books, ephemera, press cuttings, maps, parish registers and local street directories.

Workshops took place with students from St.Peter's COE Primary School and Further Education Architecture and Design students from The Edge, Folkestone. There was a resultant exhibition of their work.

The project explored new ways to connect to and reinterpret the archive material; to create investigations into individual and shared histories, memories and identities.

The project considered the role of the archive and its authority in relation to our collective history. To participate in the archive is to have political power and to help determine what is remembered and forgotten.
